What style of fishing is allowed?
Any traditional discipline of fly fishing is allowed. Nymphing with an indicator and weight, Czech nymphing, dries, poppers, streamers or tenkara. No bait, lures or spinning reels are permitted.
How often do competitors switch?
One competitor fishes at a time. The two person team can switch off anytime without limit. Only one line may be in the water at any time.
Is the area closed to other anglers or rafters?
No, the park will be open to the public. Anglers, rafters, bird watchers, dog walkers, Olympic divers, space aliens and pride marches are out of our control. Judges will politely ask non-competing anglers to move. Alternate beats are reserved in the event that there is a problem.
Do I have to be there Friday night?
No. Attendance at the beat drawings is not mandatory; however, no bribes can be taken Saturday morning.
Can I use scented flies?
Uh, No.
Can I carry extra rods?
You can carry ten rigged and ready to fish rods if it makes you feel happy.
What species count?
Any fish of any species ten inches and over count. If you win by catching a large number of suckers or you win the largest fish category with a sucker we reserve the right to flog you with a landing net.
What weight rod should I use?
Anything from a three to seven weight will work. Most folks here fish a five weight in the winter. In the summer most folks fish a Zebco with either Barbie or GI Joe on it.
